vacation thoughts of {mostly} joy

going out for dessert {costco cream puffs anyone?}
at a european cafe with my sis and brook.
best way to start out the vacation in my opinion!
~
playing settler's and phase ten {yahtzee style}
for a very long time with my in-laws is my favorite.
~
soaking in my sister in law's enormous tub
for as long as i wanted was priceless.
{they said the only rule was no blogging while in the tub..
who? me?}
~
eating as much delicious food as i wanted that i didn't have to prepare.
~
getting to visit with mauri whom i haven't seen for years
was so much fun and made me really wish we lived closer to each other.

~
getting to visit for the first time ever
with two of my cousin's wives
and finding we actually had a lot to talk about.
~
not even knowing where ava was
{or if she'd bathed or brushed her teeth} for an entire week
because i didn't want to interrupt her nonstop fun with her cousins.
~
playing air hockey against max
and almost losing.
~
watching my children wrap gifts for each other and their papa
and their excitement when the gifts were opened.
~
ava's joy at getting makeup from her aunt kristine.
"now i don't have to wear yours mom!"
yes, sweets, that was the point.
~
seeing and hearing max's repeated excitement
that santa actually got him what he asked for. {a train}
~
getting to talk to my mom about her doula training..
i'm so excited for april!
~
buying maternity jeans that aren't nearly as bad as i anticipated.
~
going through my family geneology with my mom
to search for baby girl names...ruby ollie?
~
did you know that my 6 months pregnant self
could climb three flights of stairs
and descend a twirly slide at the indoor waterpark
close to 100 times with my children?
it is true. look at this joyful face:
~
being reminded, for the millionth time,
of how awesome my children are.
~
visiting with a gorgeous girl
whom i was a teacher's aide to 11 years ago
before she left for kazakstan.
i only remember her as this silly little 9 year old girl..
but now she is BEAUTIFUL and old. so surreal.
~
watching my mom, my sister and my dad race mariokarts
against taylor.
~
taking pictures of my sister's boys with a borrowed canon SD.
beautiful boys.
~
going on a long drive with taylor
and getting in some good talk time.
~
if experiencing the stomach flu while pregnant
was part of the deciding factor in coming to earth,
i'm pretty sure i would have declined.
~
playing catch phrase with the exchange student
from libya doesn't work very well.
~
getting a massage here the day after suffering through the stomach flu
is highly recommended.
~
getting to see and catch up with my best friend
for a mere couple of hours was lovely, but just not good enough.
~
having an early countdown with all the little cousins
complete with streamers and snappers and silly string
is just plain awesome.
~
partying {as much as i could}
with friends we haven't seen in years
who we were our first newlywed friends 9 years ago.
and meeting their two cute boys.
~
hearing what people thought of me in the imagin-iff game.
thankfully, i was not voted as the person
who would throw a fit {or throw up} about hair in her restaurant food,
but rather would kindly ask for a new entree.
~
a happy {if a little queasy}
new year with my lovely husband,
family and friends.

extreme airplane turbulance
on a flu-weak stomach
is as close to death as i ever want to come.
seriously. give me childbirth anyday.
~
12 hours of sleep in my very own
most comfortable of all beds
the night upon returning home is pure bliss.
~
glad for vacation,
glad for family who hosted us and fed us,
glad for the good times we had.
~
happy new year!

I'm not pregnant and I don't think I could climb three flights of stairs 100 times. Nice job.

Sounds like an awesome vacation! Happy new year!

Oh, I loved them ALL! What a great list. These showed your cute personality and how you never let the joys of life slip by you.

Oh I missed you!

How is your belly still so small? I wish that I looked that good when I was pregnant.

GM, it's possible because Aubrey has the cutest body ever (she said heterosexually).

Sounds like you had a mostly great time - yay!

TWO BIG THUMBS UP on Ruby Ollie. Absolutely adorable and major kudos to you for finding it on your family tree... that makes it even cooler.

sounds like a wonderful time!! I had the stomach flu this week as well.. along with a cold.. and then I got food poisoning on New Year's Eve... I was hugging the toilet instead of Mark. If this baby has something wrong with it when I deliver.. I'm blaming week 9 when I had to take Robitussin and Pepto Bismal. I'm so sorry for you though. Six months along (with a belly) and having serious ab crunching time. NOT good! happy new year!

I couldn't have said it any better...especially the spending time with your lovely husband part. Its always so much fun when you guys come and visit... You guys are seriously the best friends/family in the world.. and I loved spending time with Ava and Max.. they are honestly amazing in every way..

Love you guys so much it hurts when you leave... ☻

Glad that you are home in your nice cozy bed.. Just be glad you were not banished to the pop-up camper!

Njoy the snow in Seattle, and us, the 65 degree weather in CO... (thats just wrong)

Yay! That vacation sounds so lovely. Well, minus the stomach flu nastiness it sounds lovely. I'm glad you had such a nice vacation with so many friends. And I'm glad you're back!

Ah! I'm SO glad I got to see you! It was NOT long enough though. As soon as I find a cheap flight out to Seattle, consider me there. Sounds like you guys had a fun, eventful, & maybe somewhat relaxing vacation. Glad you are all home safe. Feel better!

I'm glad to hear you are safely home and that your holidays were so fun and relaxing (other than the part where you were nauseated, of course!)

I like Ruby but someone I know has a mean dog named Ollie, so I can't say I'm totally objective about that one.

Miss you. Oh, and I hope this year is wonderful for you! XOXO

So sorry to hear you had the flu...Kali and I had it New Year's Eve too, but to have it while pregnant is about as bad as it gets. Hope you're feeling better!

I love the name Ruby! So cute! It was fun to read about your other adventures...it was great to see you!

Stomach flu while pregnant is not an earthly experience, it is Hell! Way worse than child birth. I do agree with you on that.

I am glad that your vacation had many bright spots to compensate.

Molly and I are pretty sure that Ava misses us terribly. I am so glad that your cute family came to visit. We have a new game, Phase 10 Twist, to play next time.

I loved this post--sounds like you had a truly wonderful holiday (even though you were sick; )

I love Phase 10--such a fun card game.

The magic of Christmas is so wonderful when you see it through the eyes of a child.

Happy New Year, aubrey.

Wow, that sounds fantastic! I think one of my favorite things in this world are cousins! I loved playing with my cousins when I was a kid and I can't wait for my kids to have cousins to play with! Glad you're back!

Wow...I'm tired just from reading about all that!
It sounds like you had a very busy and fabulous vacation aside from the flu!
Hope your New Year was great and that all is well for you!

Isn't it wonderful being with family? It looked like you all had a great time together.

I've loved getting to know you too Aubrey. I've always known you Weavers were all were pretty awesome people, but it's wonderful to get to know you on a more individual basis.

By the way, that version you have of "Come Thou Font of Every Blessing." Wow! I love it! I can't quite see where it is from. Help? It's always been one of my favorites, but this version is fantastic.

I always love to read your blog Aubrey, because it reminds me of a wonderfully creative story book... I could almost just see the illustrations with each memory... good, bad, silly, spiritual, or surreal, its just like looking through a window to see you! Thank you for being so awesome, and thank you for sharing your holiday thoughts.
