birthday boy
happy birthday
to my man.

who
never makes a big deal of me crying over
movies, commercials, life
or certain tv shows.
who
listens intently to my ramblings
about mabel's poop, my joy at having a washer and dryer
and funny things the kids said.
who
never says no to
making the kids into pizzas every night.
who
went after work almost every day last week
to paint our old apartment. in 104 degree weather.
who
urges me to keep staging
and doing what i love.
who
watches what i want to watch
just to be with me.
who
is patient
with my post pregnancy emotions.
who
just bought me a house.
and who
is truly my companion
and partner and support
in ever aspect of my life.
i love you, paul.

two face
so...being an apartment manager
for the last 6 1/2 years
has made me somewhat lax
in how i look when i open the door.
i mean when people are knocking on your door
at all hours of the day
and night
you can only look put-together so often.
unfortunately,
i think it really confuses my tenants.
i remember this one time
when i was heading out the door on a date
and dressed to the nines
and someone dropped of their rent.
i opened the door and took his check
and noticed
how the guy looked
appreciately at me and was rather friendly.
then not a day later,
the same guy came by early in the morning
for something or other
and seriously was in shock at how i looked.
which made me laugh really hard after i shut the door.
i think he really didn't recognize me.
and everytime i see this seinfeld,
it totally reminds me of..
well, me.

emmy recap
at 9:30 last night as i was turning off my computer
i saw that the emmy's were on.
so, paul and i turned it on and watched the last little bit of it.
now, you have to understand,
i don't watch tv. i don't like it.
we have an HD tuner so we just get whatever we happen to get.
even still, this week of, what did they call it?
national stay at home week
i will watch the office and that is it.
so, for me to watch the emmy's
and actually know what is going on,
and who is who,
is not very likely.
but i love seeing the dresses and the hair and jewelry and makeup.

now for the ladies above, i'm not too crazy about their dresses,
{i think sandra oh's is best}
but i love their hair.
i love the sideswept, curly look. love it.
and i particularly liked kate walsh's sleek hair paired with her jewelry.
very glamorous.
brooke shields was just all around lovely,
even if her face looked a tad botox-y,
she is hot and that dress was awesome.

i regret that i can't find a good picture of glenn close and sally fields
who i thought looked beautiful.
hooray for older women in entertainment!
but..
my two favorite quotes from the last part of last night..
glenn close's acceptance speech:
"i think we’re proving complicated, powerful, mature women are sexy, high entertainment and can carry a show."
tina fey's acceptance speech:
"i want to thank my parents for somehow raising me to have confidence that is disproportionate with my looks and abilities. well done, that is what all parents should do."

and i really, really promise that i am going to have a blog safety post up soon..i just keep forgetting and getting sidetracked. but i've gotten all your emails reminding me..i have not forgotten!! xxoo

jello
in honor of our friend's birthday
and the first episode of the office in a long time,
paul and i put her gift in jello.
it was not a stapler
or a "world's best boss" mug.
rather, it was a zyliss lemon zester for her kitchen.
a little more practical, we thought.

happy things
i'm having one of those days.
and i can't put my finger on what is bumming me out.
so, i've decided to just focus on...
the office tomorrow night.
my hopes are for toby to snap in the near future.

ingrid michaelson. i love her.
even though i missed her show last night due to lame circumstances,
i love, love, love her cd.
and love blasting the volume and dancing while listening to it.
hmm. wait, that's making me sad again.
moving on..
my great grandma's brooch that my mom sent me.

and her worn, but beautiful apron.

and her grapefruit knife.
for real.
this makes me really happy.
do you know how much easier it is for me to eat my grapefruit now?

my sweet family playing spin the bottle during fhe
on monday night
to see who would be the next to kiss me
and say thanks to me for all i do.
a darling friend whose out of the blue email a couple hours ago
cheered me up,
and
this amazing family that she told me about.
and whose story brought me to tears.
last night's happy hour cheese and chocolate fondue at $10 a person
with some of my best girlfriends.

max saying "donut" still cracks me up. mm...krispy kreme.
and of course, paul.
who insists on making me happy no matter what.
who wants me to fulfill my dreams no matter what.
who thanks me for doing little things like the laundry
or making a crappy dinner.
he is the reason i am.
...and reading through this post i just wrote was like
a virtual slap in the face for being mopey.
i have so much.
go ahead. tell me to shut up. i can take it.

movie
a couple of days ago glittersmama asked me for a movie recommendation for valentine's day. one that her man would enjoy as much as she would. this is tricky. most guys don't like chickflicks. it's fine if you're a guy and you like them. but most don't.
i began thinking about various types of movies.
i love movies..
and i'm rather picky.
but, i think i might have come up with the solution for you, gm. of course it's my all time favorite movie. so, i am slightly biased. but i personally think casablanca is the best option to please both parties. here is why..
pros for your man..

it's a patriotic war movie.
there is shooting of good and bad guys throughout.
rick is one studly, fast talking, wealthy and intelligent role model for your man to emulate.
ilsa is a stunning sight to behold.
and, it's not too romantic.
pros for you..

it is romantic. seeing a guy in pain over a woman is always a good thing.
it's patriotic. i always cry when they sing the french national anthem.
ilsa is a strong female role model who is torn between duty and love.
the acting is perfection.
and of course, rick is a stud.
update..
alert! alert!
paul. wrote. a. blog. post.
i've since gotten over my shock and wanted to share it with you.
it's about his favorite movies, so maybe it'll give you alternate ideas for what you can watch with your hubby for vday.

tonight
i've had a crazy busy day but needed to acknowledge two things:
1. i received a lovely and unexpected surprise in the mail today.
lauren, thank you so, so, so very much. this made my day!
2. my favorite and only show that i watch is premiering tonight.
a quote that comes to mind, by none other than creed,
"au naturale baby, that’s how I like ‘em. swing low sweet chariots."

best of the good
i must say that glittersmama outdid herself. this is truly the best of the good mail i have received. i hope you all will understand.
in addition, you truly cannot appreciate the glory of the quote on my new (and incredibly mighty) refrigerator magnet unless you watch the youtube video.
